Solar’s share of the of the world’s electrical energy in 2026 is about 20 times what it was just 12 years ago. That is a change from 1% to 10% of the 32,000 terawatt-hours consumed annually. Solar energy is now cheaper than any other source of energy on earth and the rate of grow is exponential. The average rate of growth compounded annually is 28%. Sat this rate, solar electric energy will be the leading electrical energy supplier in the next 10 to 15 years.
We will most likely consume more energy in the future and energy storage adds 25% to 30% to the cost. That being the case, 15 years is a more realistic estimate for Solar’s domination of electrical energy generation. Coal, natural gas and nuclear energy will become financially obsolete within five years but they will hang-on a bit longer.
It takes about one year to recoup the energy required to manufacture and install a solar PV system. No other energy source even comes close to that.
The solar energy industry will continue to grow. Those who prepared for it, will grow with it. Resist the negative rhetoric perpetuated by the fossil fuel industries and their policy friends. Their days are numbered and they know it; they just want to slow it down for their own financial benefit.
The fastest growing industry right now is AI. Utilities and conventional fossil-fuel energy sources are not able to meet the growth rate but solar electric systems with energy storage can.
The majority of the jobs created by this capacity growth will be human jobs that cannot be automated with AI or machines. Solar energy requires more labor-hours per megawatt that any other industry, making it the best job creator in the electrical generation industry.
